Day 289. Marathon Packet

April 17, 2013

I received the Bundang half-marathon packet today.

I found out the marathon will be held in my town, the day after its registration deadline. As soon as I read it through, I called the hosting office and asked for a favor; I was so quick in action and got in. But now that I have the packet in my hands, I wonder, I wonder hmm, I should have given myself a second thought!

Day 286. Cheating?

Apr 14, 2013

I know it sounds like a cheating, but as I have believed and emphasized, what’s important in learning is steadiness and consistency.

Although, I was not in a mood to write, skipping an entry in my English diary was not even an option.

So, in order to meet my goal of writing daily in English, I copied and pasted the post I wrote on ChattingCat’s FB fan page.

Day 247. Speech preparation

Mar 6, 2013

It’s been one year since I started the fearful Wednesday Toastmasters’ morning, and Not only that every Tuesday, I still have had a big headache from stress. However, after six speeches, though I’m in very slow pace my pace is slowI’m the one who can notice the change the most. I notice a big change. No matter what the speech topic is, no matter what the assigned role is, the time required for preparation has decreased to one day, instead of all weekend through Tuesday!

Day 246. The sixth speech

Mar 5, 2013

I’m the speaker at the Toastmasters tomorrow. My speech title is ‘My Grandfather and Me.’ This is the sixth speech in which I am supposed to focus on vocal variety, the CC manual project #6. So simple memorizing memorization is not enoughbut I need to practice different voice tone, volume, rate and especially pause.

Day 245. Burgermaster

Mar 4, 2013

Today I had Burgermaster combo including a burger, soda, and a lot of fries. It Going there wasn’t a original plan. J and I were going to go toBoom for happy hour. J thought happy hour started at 9 PM, but they had just changed their sign to “Closed” when we arrived. Burgermasterseemed to be the best alternative since it is only a block away. We had our combo and shared a grilled cheese sandwich. We were like a little boy and a girl with happy smile. I told J that I was so happy to enjoy junk food with him without feeling guilty.

But two hours later, I did not feel good. I felt sleepy and had low energy. I should have not eaten junk food.

Day 244. 18 mile run

Mar 3, 2013

I’ve heard a lot from marathoners saying that one needs to have run 18 miles at least once before the race. So today was the day I picked to run.

I had no idea what it meant to run 18 miles or how my body would react. I wasn’t in good condition for the run, however, I couldn’t delay the 18 mile run anymore since I’m only two weeks away from the LA marathon.

It was doable until I was 16 miles in, then it became pretty painful. I don’t know how I finished the last two miles. My toenail felt numb. It took over three hours to complete.

But at the end, I felt so happy!

I can see why people say an 18-mile run is a must before the first full marathon. Running 26.2 miles still sounds scary, but I’m definitely less fearful!
